This course focuses on construction materials, systems and integrated design. Through the careful study of buildings that relate design concept to construction systems and tectonics, students develop an appreciation for the value of fully resolved execution. This study seeks to locate architecture at the juncture of design intention and technical means.
Course objectives
Information: to introduce construction materials, systems and the concept of integrated design for small and large scale construction.
Intention: to demonstrate how architects select and manipulate standard materials and systems to support
particular conceptual strategies.
Application: to use the material presented in lectures as the basis for understanding construction documents and
developing three-dimensional technical drawings.
