Geographic Information Systems (GIS) play a pivotal role in documenting and analyzing existing, historical and future trends in planning to understand spatial relationships. This course will introduce students to GIS in terms of data acquisition, database creation, data browsing, data management, data digitizing, geocoding, geoprocessing procedures, analysis, and cartography. Students will also collect integrate, and apply data in both quantitative and qualitative formats. Students will prepare a map atlas throughout the semester to document urban built environment and behavior to help analyze built environment for urban planning.
