The City of Lockport has requested University to conduct an Urban Design Studio focusing on the adaptive reuse of the 500,000 SF, former Harrison Radiator industrial complex, located adjacent to central Lockport. The studio will combine teams of Planners and Architects, addressing the urban context, planning and design of new occupancies, linkages to the city and adjacent communities, and other potentials for the 6.5-acre site. The studio will create development concepts and design ideas for reuse of the various components of the complex including functions such as Housing, Recreation, Technology, Research, Education, Start-Up, Office and Retail. The studio will interact with client and stakeholders on a frequent basis for critique and review. The concepts will be documented in plans, sketches and diagrams illustrating the short and long-tern development opportunities for reuse and integration into the community fabric.
Permission of the instructor.
