This course explores the dynamics of central city revitalization in shrinking cities that are located in both growing and shrinking metropolitan regions. Operating within a social and racial justice framework, it examines efforts to revitalize central cities so they are transformed into people-centered urban communities that maximize the abilities of each person to realize their full human potential. The goal of central city revitalization, then, is to build just metropolitan cities.
