This course provides you with a substantial introduction to geographic information systems and develops your understanding of the fundamental principles and characteristics of spatial information.  It gives an overview of the operations and functions of GIS, and in particular, a basic understanding of GIS applications on urban and environment planning, and issues in other disciplines. Experiential learning is emphasized through a series of tutorials and application exercises. Graduate students from all disciplines are encouraged to enroll in this course which focuses on performing and applying elementary spatial analysis and mapping in the ESRI desktop ArcGIS 10.1 environment.
